Skhool Worcs At A Glance

Who?

  • Young men of color between the ages of 17-24, that have been or are currently in foster care and/ or identify as a juvenile justice involved youth. Young men of this population who are not enrolled in school.

What?

  • An alternative education program designed to help young men of color reach higher scholastic altitudes and learn various work readiness skills that will enhance their personal and professional growth.

Where?

  • Virtually! All services will be offered virtually to students located in New York City at this time while we continue to navigate the Covid-19 pandemic.

Why?

  • Because approximately 2.8 – 5 million young people between the ages of 17 and 24 are neither in school or gainfully employed. 16% of all high school dropouts between the ages of 17 and 24 are incarcerated or on parole. 30% of all African American dropouts fall into this age bracket. Out of those who are four years out of foster care, 46% of young people do not have a high school diploma while, roughly 80% of new job openings require applicants to have some level of postsecondary education. Thus, unemployment and low-income wages continue to be widespread among youth who have transitioned or aged out of foster care and those who have been released from incarceration. This is a problem.

Luck is just bein’ prepared at all times, so when the door opens, you are ready.
